PDC Cutters For Oil/Gas Drilling Bits

What is a PDC cutter?

The full name of PDC cutter is Polycrystalline Diamond Compact Cutter, PDC cutters are widely used for petroleum and oil field PDC bit, geological PDC exploration bits, gas exploration bits, PDC coal mining drill bits.

HNI manufactures a full range of premium polycrystalline diamond and tungsten carbide (WC) products that drive productivity in the oil and gas drilling industry. PDC cutter allows the high strength, hardness and wearing property of diamond layer. Applied to oil drill bits, PDC displays satisfying thermal stability, higher impact resistance and excellent performance.

As a quality PDC cutter manufacturer, HNI supplies PDC cutter to major PDC bit manufacturers worldwide.

A full range of PDC cutters designed for oil/gas drilling and mining bits, are manufactured under state-of-the-art sintering processes. It consists of a layer of polycrystalline diamond integrally sintered to a tungsten carbide substrate under high pressure and high temperature. PDC cutter combines the hardness and abrasion resistance of diamond with the impact resistance of tungsten carbide, and provides faster, more durable and more cost-effective drilling.

※ PDC CUTTERS FOR OIL/GAS DRILLING BITS

Unique patented interface geometry and good diamond properties contribute to good abrasion resistance, high impact resistance and reduced residual stress. Enhanced design features and improvements are giving excellent performance in drilling soft to medium formations.

The unique integrated design helps minimize internal stress and improve spalling and chipping resistance. The combination of unique interface geometry and diamond properties provides increased Rate of Penetration (ROP) and longer big life in highly demanding drilling applications.

Nonstandard products-i.e. those not confirming to any listed specification, may be supplied on request.

Before leaving the factory, the appearance size, chamfering Angle and joint surface of the all PDC cutters are tested. Several pieces were randomly selected from each batch for wear resistance and impact resistance testing.

Features and Benefits of PDC Cutters

1. Higher ROP

2. Higher resistance

3. Higher impact

4. Has good self-sharpening performance.

Ultrasonic C Scan:

It is used for inspecting the interface between diamond layer and tungsten carbide to make sure the sintered procedure is in accordance with requirement. It is the very important factor to evaluate the inside quality of PDC cutter.

Electron Microscope:

This device can magnify the image on the cross-sectional profile of a PDC cutter hundreds of times, which will be very useful for analyzing the micro-connected structure inside the cutter.

Scanning electron microscope

A raster electron microscope is an electron microscope class instrument designed to obtain an image of the surface of an object with a high spatial resolution, as well as information about the composition, structure, and some other properties of the surface layers.

This device can magnify the image thousands of times on the cross-sectional profile of the PDC cutter, which will be very useful for analyzing the surface cutter.

Wear Resistance Test:

Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL) this apparatus is the large VTL used for abrasion performance testing of PDC cutters. The VTL machine is performed both in wet and dry environment, on the granite plana. the PDC cutter cuts through granite in a certain number of circles with a certain feed, we observe temperature and cutting forces, and measure cutter consumption volume. This can evaluate cutters' abrasion resistance and thermal stability.

Impact Resistance Test:

The test will use a steel ball with agreed size dropping from different heights with regular dropping times which will occur a certain energy. It can measure the impact performance of PDC cutters.
